The city of Kota, on river Chambal, situated in the south east of Rajasthan, is a well known education city of the country. Hailed as the Nalanda of Rajasthan, Kota is a confluence of ancient and modern education streams. The conventional education, committed to ideal acculturation and surpassing refinement, has especially earned recognition in this Hadoti area, comprising the districts of Kota, Bundi, Baran and Jhalawar. Having been ruled by the Hada dynasty for long, this area was called Hadoti with Kota city being the capital of the state of Hadoti.

During the dominion rule, the Vitthalnath Sanskrit Pathshala was established for the promotion and proliferation of the Sanskrit language in 1896 by the first head of the seat of the Vallabha sect in the Mathuradheesh temple. The institution successively graduated to Acharya (PG) College and then it was widely recognised as Shri Vitthalnath Acharya Sanskrit College.

The college was run as an aided institution up to July 8, 1999 after which it was taken over by the state government on July 9, 1999. It is the only Acharya level Sanskrit college of Hadoti catering to the needs of the students of the area and those of the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh. Since January 27, 2011, the college has been running in the newly constructed state building at Rawatbhata Road, Tagore Nagar, Kota.

To sum up, this more than a century old only Acharya (PG) level Sanskrit college of Hadoti has been committed to bolstering and blossoming of the oriental studies of Jyotish, Dharma, Darshan and Vangmaya.
